International Museum Day 2015: Ayala Museum

Ayala Museum opened its doors for free on May 17 in celebration of International Museum Day. The place was abuzz with visitors who came to enjoy the art as well as the shops.

I’ve been to the Ayala Museum a couple of times in the past and each visit was enjoyable. But this trip was extra special since this is the first time I witnessed yakan weaving.

Evilinda from the indigenous tribe Yakan in Mindanao demonstrates their art form of weaving locally sourced fibers into a table runner. Other products include placemats, coasters, and sling bags.

My all-time favorite exhibit at the Ayala Museum is the Gold of Ancestors – it showcases the sophisticated pre-colonization society of early Filipinos.

I know I’m not supposed to take photos but I couldn’t resist boasting to the world about our literally rich heritage. I hope Ayala Museum doesn’t ban me. Lol

Gold could be seen everywhere, especially in the house of the elite.

Gold was the status symbol of the day. The thicker the gold, the richer they were.

Thank you, Ayala Museum, for offering a peak into your glorious collection.

I hope to visit the National Museum as well before the month ends. Their doors are open for free everyday except Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM for the whole month of May in celebration of International Museum Day.

What’s your favorite museum? Tell me in the comments. 🙂
